Dr. Julio A. Rodriguez is an internationally recognized vascular surgeon dedicated to advancing vascular education, research, and teaching. He specializes in the treatment of vascular diseases. He completed his vascular fellowship at the Arizona Heart Institute, under the mentorship of the well renowned, Dr Edward B. Diethrich, joining their staff in 1993.
Dr. Rodriguez earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico and his medical degree from Central East University in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at the Ponce Regional Hospital in Puerto Rico. He is fluent in Spanish.
He served as the Director of the Vascular & Endovascular Fellowship Training Program at the Arizona Heart Institute. Additionally, he was the Director of the Arizona Heart Hospital (AHI) Wound Center and Vascular Fellowship Program from 1998 until 2015. As part of his advanced wound care training, Dr. Rodriguez obtained certification in hyperbaric medicine from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
Dr. Rodriguez is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery, board-certified in General Surgery and Vascular Medicine. He has served as an assistant professor at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona, and is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Vascular Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Therapists, and the Vascular and Endovascular Surgical Society of Puerto Rico.
Since 1999, he has been recognized in the biographical records of "Who’s Who in America" in Medicine and Healthcare. He is a past president and member of the Edward B. Diethrich Vascular Surgical Society and received the Health Care Heroes Researcher/Innovator Award from the Phoenix Business Journal in 2012. Most recently, he was selected as one of America’s Best Vascular Surgeons for 2024 by Newsweek Magazine.
Dr. Rodriguez has dedicated nearly twenty years to instructing the Endovascular Surgery Intermediate and Advanced Training Program at both Columbia Medical Center and the Arizona Heart Hospital. He has been a guest speaker at various national and international medical symposiums. In addition to his educational contributions, he has authored multiple book chapters and numerous articles on endovascular interventions and techniques, with over eighty publications in major peer-reviewed journals. An active researcher, Dr. Rodriguez is involved in several Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) FDA trials, including the Gore-Tag trial, which led to the approval of endografts for treating Thoracic Aortic Aneurysms (TAA).
Outside of his medical career, Dr. Rodriguez is an accomplished painter and enjoys hiking, golfing, and traveling with his family.
